Crumlin, Dublin

Map of Crumlin

See our large, interactive Map of Crumlin for more detail, including satellite views of Crumlin.

Map of Crumlin, west of Harold's Cross and north of Kimmage.

Crumlin is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, situated on the Southside of the city between Walkinstown, Drimnagh and the Grand Canal. Crumlin is usually considered to be in Dublin 12, a Dublin postal district, although some parts of it are sometimes considered as Dublin 6.

Crumlin is where Morrsiseys parents lived.

Crumlin is the home Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Dublin's main Children's hospital. It is also known as the childhood home of the late Phil Lynott, bassist, singer and poet, and leader and co-founder of the rock band Thin Lizzy.

Elderly lady from Crumlin
There was a very sad story in the news this week about an elderly lady from Crumlin who apparently lay at home for two weeks after a fall, and died in hospital. She was trying to call a friend who was on holiday for help. She could have called an ambulance of course, but old folks often don't want to "make a fuss". Just this week an elderly friend of my family lay injured by the phone for most of the day, until a neighbour found him - he couldn't get to his list of numbers, but dialling 999 would have saved him a lot of pain.

I suppose many of us are guilty of letting old neighbours, whom we barely know, get on with it. Whatever governments do by way of social services etc, there will always be sad cases that slip through the net.

Byrne family search
Searching for my Dublin relatives. My mum,(MARGARET MARY BYRNE but known as RITA) born in 1933, grew up in Dublin. Her parents were CATHERINE COWMAN (1909 ? 11 May 1951) and MATTHEW BYRNE (Dec 1910 ? 5th Aug 1952). Catherine and Matthew were married probably in 1932 but I?m not certain of the date. The Byrne family lived in Dublin from at least 1933 onwards. From 1940 the family lived in CURLEW ROAD, DRIMNAGH, DUBLIN. Mum attended school at THE CONVENT OF OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL SUCCOUR where she was taught by SISTER CONCEPTION and SISTER DE PAUL. I believe she attended school in both FRANCES STREET and MOURNE ROAD but am unsure of the dates. She had 3 siblings, NUALA (b. Frances Street. Dec 1936) , SHEILA (b. Curlew Road 19 Apr 1944) and DESMOND (b. Frances Street 13 Oct 1940). The Byrne family lived in Dublin from at least 1933 onwards. Mum left Ireland when she was in her teens but moved back briefly to marry dad. Her mother and father both died just over a year apart during mum?s absence. I believe that Catherine died in Phoenix Park Hospital and Matthew in Cork Street Hospital, Dublin. I think Nuala had left home by this time. After Matthew died Desmond went to live with his grandmother at 6 Ardee Street in Dublin. 6 Ardee Street was where Matthew had been born in 1952. Sheila, apparently, was sent to live at a children?s home run by nuns. Mum lost all contact with her brother and sisters. If you recognise any of these details please reply. Any help very much appreciated.

Byrne family dublin
Looking for DESMOND JOSEPH BYRNE (b. Frances Street 13 Oct 1940). Son of MATTHEW BYRNE (Dec 1910 ? 5th Aug 1952) and CATHERINE BYRNE (nee COWMAN 1909 ? 11 May 1951) Brother of MARGARET MARY BYRNE (aka RITA b.1933.) NUALA CLAIRE(b. Frances Street. Dec 1936) and SHEILA ANNE(b. Curlew Road 19 Apr 1944) The Byrne family lived in Dublin from at least 1933 onwards. From 1940 the family lived in CURLEW ROAD, DRIMNAGH, DUBLIN 12. I believe that Catherine died in Phoenix Park Hospital and Matthew in Cork Street Hospital, Dublin. I think Nuala had left home by this time. After Matthew died Desmond went to live with his Paternal grandmother at 6 Ardee Street in Dublin. Sheila, apparently, was sent to live at a children?s home/orphanage possibly run by nuns, possibly in DRUMCONDRA. Please contact me with any information.

crumlin relatives
Hello

My husband's mum & dad were both from Crumlin. They came to England in the late 40's but sadly died in the 70's.

My father in law's name was Andrew Kavanagh and he married Ann Davis. Ann had quite a few brothers. (Peter, Eddie were two of them)

Does anyone have any knowledge of relatives still living in Crumlin?

This is just out of interest as my two sons are very proud and interested in the their Irish heritage and would love to find out more.

Thanks very much

DVD
I was in Crumlin a few weeks ago and somebody has made a DVD about Crumlin in 1933.

I think it was being shown at The Village Inn.

Unfortunately I did not buy a copy but now I wish I had.

Does anybody know where I can get a copy
